The title page is lacking, although the above details are correct, and consists of Part One only)Three works bound in one.Bound in full, later, sheep, and measures approx 18.7cm x 15cm x 6cm. The boards and extremities are surface worn and scuffed, and the corners are a little bumped and nicked. The spine is heavily creased and worn, and the top and bottom edges are chipped and frayed with loss. The headbands are broken. The hinges are a little cracking and worn, but holding. The headbands are broken. Internally, there are later endpapers to the front and rear. There is a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, and pencil notes about the contents to the front free endpaper. The title page of the first work and the following leaf are chipped and grubby. The contents, similarly have some grubbiness, with pale scattered staining in places throughout, heavier towards the rear. The edges are thumbed and there is light thumbing and grubbiness with smudging in places throughout, with some quite heavy grubbiness to a few leaves or small sections. There are some scattered pencil initials to some margins. There are a few edge creases nicks and tears, and one leaf has a large portion chipped from lower fore edge corner, although the chip is present and loosely placed. There is some worming to the inner margin of a large section, see images. The text block is cracking and straining in places throughout. Else in reasonable condition. Incomplete.Daniel Dyke (died 1614) was an English academic, a Puritan of the reign of James I. All of Dyke’s treatises were published posthumously by his brother, Jeremiah Dyke. Daniel Dyke’s most famous work, The Mystery of Self-Deceiving, based on Jeremiah 17:9, is a detailed anatomy of the “gospel-hypocrite,” i.e., one who claims to know Christ but whose life reveals little self-knowledge and no fruit."John Dod (c1549 – 1645), known as "Decalogue Dod", was a non-conforming English clergyman, taking his nickname for his emphasis on the Ten Commandments. He is known for his widely circulated writings. He had important support from sympathetic members of the Puritan gentry throughout a long career.""Robert Cleaver (d. 1613) Minister in Oxfordshire, but silenced for nonconformity.
