Boston was one of the very first towns in Lincolnshire to be lit by gas, and the 'Boston Gas Light and Coke Company' was formed by local merchants and shopkeepers to provide and operate these services (and they continued to be owned by local Boston people all the way up until the mid20th century).

This booklet explores the gradual expansion of the works and the problems encountered by the local Gas company, as well as examining some of the people who were involved. Chapters include:

Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two minor scuffs, and some light nibbling along the edges, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is some rusting around the staples
