From the introduction: The World War One Study Group set out to research some of the effects the war had on life in Balcombe and its people. This publication covers most of the results of this work. The research was carried out between 2009 and 2014. A variety of information sources were used..... [and] as the work progressed several anomalies emerged some of which we have been unable to resolve. For example some men's names appear on the Church Memorial but not on the Victory Hall one and vice versa. The Mid Sussex Times also lists 40 men from Balcombe who volunteered but whose names do not appear anywhere else. Another area where queries remain is in the spelling of some names particularly ones like "Bourn" where sometimes they end with an 'e' and sometimes not, even for the same person. We have adopted the versions found most frequently and hope their descendants will understand if we have not always chosen the correct spelling.
Condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs but is clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
