Winchell, Horace McCoy, Western Writers Series No. 51, 1982, Excellent Condition

Mark Royden Winchell, Horace McCoy, Western Writers Series, Number 51, Boise State University 1982, in excellent condition.  This 50 page biography of McCoy is one of the Western Writers series from Boise State.   I could be wrong, but I do not know of any other biography of McCoy, whose now iconic They Shoot Horses, Don’t They, was written in the Depression years and turned into a significant movie much later.  During his lifetime McCoy received little public acclaim, until the Europeans discovered and lionized him after World War II.   Although he now has become highly collectible,  the details of his life and writings are not easily available.  Winchell fills that void, describing  McCoy’s upbringing, his years in Dallas as a journalist, actor and man about town, which form the basis for one of his books, his writing for Black Mask, and his move to California and his life there.  Winchell devotes much of the book to a careful analysis of McCoy’s main works.  And there is a useful bibliography.  This is a valuable book, in near fine condition with bright clean pages and no markings, for anyone interested in this Texas/California writer.  Shopping free, only to locations in the United States.
