FORMATHardcover CONDITIONBrand New Publisher Description
What do we do with the Bible? Does this ancient, sometimes violent and contradictory text have anything to teach us today? Selective use of Scripture - by preachers and politicians alike - has been employed to justify violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia . . . the list goes on. Still, we believe the Bible has something important to say. How can we read it in a contemplative and intelligent way?In What do we do with the Bible?, Richard Rohr answers just this question. He offers a methodology of hermeneutics (interpretation) that creates a foundation for a hopeful and cosmic vision - incarnation from beginning to end of time. (He explores this vision further in The Universal Christ). In particular, Father Richard focuses on Jesus' own method of using his Hebrew Scriptures. Jesus read between the lines to find and follow God's mercy, inclusion, and compassionate justice. For him, everything came down to relationship and transformation.

Review
The Universal Christ: Rohr sees the Christ everywhere, and not just in people. He reminds us that the first incarnation of God is in Creation itself, and he tells us that "God loves things by becoming them." Just for that sentence, and there are so many more, I cannot put this book down. -- Bono, U2The Divine Dance s not only Richard Rohr's best book; it's the best book on the Trinity I've ever read. Tender, human, both pastorally and psychologically brilliant, this is the work Rohr was born to do . . . An instant spiritual classic. -- Jonathan Martin, Author, How to Survive a ShipwreckFalling Upward: Understanding the spiritual aspects of aging is as important as appreciating the systems and biological processes that age us. Richard Rohr has given us a perfect guide to what he calls the "further journey," a voyage into the mystery and beauty of healthy spiritual maturity. -- Mehmet Oz, M.D., host of the ' Show'The power of Immortal Diamond is impossible to exaggerate. With the cutting skills of a surgeon and the heart of a Franciscan, Richard exposes the misperceptions and counterfeits that have shaped our faith. He then promises and delivers a "staggering change of perspective" along with a taste of the intimacy of all love, both human and divine. Every word is a rare gift from a true elder and a worthy guide. -- Paula D'Arcy, author, Gift of the Red Bird and Waking Up to This DayRichard Rohr continues to guide us to greater wholeness. The latest example is his new book, Breathing Under Water. A prolific writer, his books have helped countless souls, especially those who struggle with issues of brokenness and seek transformation. * National Catholic Reporter *
