Back Cover
The never-ending war with Them might be over. Now humanity turns on itself . . . I should be dead. The war with the aliens. Them. It's over. Now we turn on ourselves. Human fighting human again, when we came so close to wiping ourselves out the last time and the bad guys, the true bastards like Rolleston, Cronin and the Grey Lady, hold all the cards. God may control the net, privacy is dead, but Demiurge is coming. We don't stand a chance. I've had enough. No more fighting for my life, last ditch assaults, putting my mostly machine body back together again. No more desperate chases, nearly dying in space when the integrity of the exo-armour starts to give. No more fear... I've pushed my luck too far. I'm out. This isn't my war, even if it means I've lost her. Just one last piece of revenge. But things never go as I plan. If I could only stop thinking about Morag. Jakob Douglas, damaged soldier and unlikely hero, returns in another pulse-pounding adventure from Gavin Smith, author of the widely acclaimed Veteran 'Mind-expanding concepts, imaginative aliens and provocative themes' SFX 978 0 575 09472 7 8.99 [cover for Veteran ]

Author Biography
Gavin Smith was born in Dundee and now lives in Leicester. With a degree in Media Production (specialising in script writing) and a MA in Medieval history he is the worst person in the world to watch a historical movie with. Fortunately he may just be the best person to write the next book you read if you love violent SF thrillers that crank up the fun with the body-count and keep you thinking. He owns his own marketing company.
Review
Gavin Smith's writing is a brutal kaleidoscope of imagination, with the raw energy of a heavy metal album cover: equally dazzling with bloodthirsty ancient Picts and the fallen post-humans of tomorrow. -- Hannu Rajaniemi, author of The Causal AngelAge Of Scorpio announces loud and clear that in Gavin Smith an exceptional talent has arrived to uplift SF. The book is a master class of twisting plot lines that celebrate both the weird and astounding, amid a future that's deeply unnerving yet equally compelling. -- Peter F Hamilton

"If you've ever read any Richard Morgan you will be in familiar territory, only this feels darker, grittier, louder and more grounded than Morgan's work . . . I have no hesitation in recommending Veteran ."
