A New Life was Bernard Malamud's third book, a semi-autobiographical campus novel first published in 1961. It was "[a]n overlooked masterpiece [and] may still be undervalued as Malamud's funniest and most embracing novel" (Jonathan Lethem).
Condition:
Binding tight and square. Original full-bound green cloth boards present well with some moderate age-toning to edges and a few light stains. Moderate rubbing to corners with a bit of loss at top corners and wear to head and foot of spine. Internally about fine with only light tanning to pages, more moderate near edges. INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the front endpaper, "For Ben / With much / affection / Bern / Bennington / 1962." Dust Jacket presents well. Age-toning to edges and spine with some water spots to latter. A bit of tanning to front and rear panels. Moderate chipping to corners and head and foot of spine with some loss and some very small open and closed tears to edges. Original Price of $4.95 Not Clipped. A very nice example.
