New edition of two volumes of poems, first published in 1917 and 1919, both dealing directly with Gurney's experiences in the trenches. In two sections, part one contains the texts, with the second devoted to following the genesis of the poems from the initial idea through roughbooks to publication. Committed to an asylum after the war, Gurney died in a London mental hospital in 1937.
