This book contains biographical information about the artist and author Paul Goble. He was known for his knowledge about Indian People, particularly Lakota, Cheyenne and Blackfoot, and depicted their heritage faithfully through his artwork in 42 books, which are both about tales and stories as well as actual historical Indian events. He was the winner of the Caldecott Medal for Children’s illustrated books in 1979 for his book The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses. Throughout this book are examples of his dynamic artwork as well as photographs of him with Indian friends and with his family.

The book is developed chronologically in 15 chapters, along with comments by Bryan about Goble’s life. First, it describes Goble’s British childhood, education and career and early manhood serving in World War II. He then came to the United States with the desire to know Indian People. He indeed met them as well as a loving woman, Janet, who became his wife. Several chapters are devoted to his success as a writer and new life in the Black Hills of South Dakota as he retold other Indian tales. His contacts with Indian people continued to enrich his life. The book concludes with the illnesses of Janet and Paul and their deaths. Also included is a chronology of his writings from 1969 to 2015.
