This is a 1956 1st Edition of the famously flamboyant British Conservative Politician Norman St John Stevas' (famously sacked by Margaret Thatcher (despite calling her the "blessed Margaret"!!! ) book on the history of what was considered Obscene publications from the earliest time (Romans) up to the publication date (1956). The book is an interesting depth, but very readable and witty look on why literature, films and plays were considered "obscene". would be of interest to anyone interested in literature the law or politics. There is some "sunning" which has faded some of the spine and the front cover which I hope can be seen. it is signed by the author to Sir Campbell Stuart, and has his bookplate as this came from his private library.
