A 1st pb edition, published the same time as the fairly limited hardback edition. (nb also offered for sale as mint copies) Square quarto, 10" x 10" ix to xx is an essay by John Fowles: xxii to xxix an Intro by Ian Jeffrey; 127pp by Fay Godwin of her randomly placed photographs of the entire country of GB; inc list of same, biographical notes & further acknowledgments. One of quite a small number of DOUBLE SIGNED copies from John Fowles' local bookshop at the time; thus never owned, stored for many years & offered now.Along with these notable names, Ian Jeffrey, the Art Historian, wrote a very masterful introduction. The essay by J.F. is quite stark in his dismay at the way our countryside has been raped, & that was nearly 40 years ago!! It makes one quite horrified to read his forecast which, in many ways, has been substantiated. His appreciation of the photographer knew no bounds.BUT it was a shelf copy unfortunately, the colours of the covers are VERY fugitive & the spine has faded from the original brown down to green. so, although technically new, the overall condition is not as good as it should be. The corners are slightly caught & there are a few marks on the cover when viewed against the light, There is a shop sticker on the back, Never the less, the main value in the signatures & the beautiful photography still cannot be ignored, & it is much better condition than one which has been preowned & opened many times. I also have various other titles, mostly new, from John Fowles for sale, many signed by him in person for me.
