Review
It's No Biggie! is a gem. It is an insightful, extremely well-written, well-researched window into a long-neglected area. The book is interesting and practical beyond its target audience of professional educators. It will certainly help me to better serve my pediatric patients and their families. My thanks to Dr. Barboa and Ms. Datema for this important work! - Mark Ellis, M.D.It's No Biggie! is an easy-to-read guidebook for teachers who wish to provide a successful learning environment for all of their young children, including those with characteristics of autism. Dr. Linda Barboa and Mary Lou Datema write from an extensive background of experience and their practical strategies will ensure increased growth and development for students in any early childhood classroom. - Peggy Reed, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education, Evangel UniversityI highly recommend this book to early childhood teachers and to parents alike. This book starts with the basics of education and builds on that information to give the reader the solid foundation needed to teach special needs children, whether they have a formal diagnosis or not. The thing I love about this book is that it is a tool to help the teacher really enjoy each child-not just tolerate him. The authors provide real life scenarios and stories to put a face to the issues they discuss. They make the information interesting by relating it to children they have worked with. Every student in an education class should read this book. - Tina Steadman, ParentThis book should be required reading for all students who are preparing to be teachers. It's No Biggie! guides the reader by presenting the teacher's perspective, the parent's perspective, and most importantly, the child's perspective. As a parent, I truly wish this book had been available when my children were in preschool. As an education professional, I believe this book would benefit each and every early childhood teacher who is trying to make her classroom a better experience for all. "It's No Biggie!" is an easy read with practical suggestions to classroom problems. - Kristina Heth, Speech-Language PathologistAs early childhood educators, we must be prepared to meet the needs of youngsters diagnosed with autism, as well as those with autism not yet identified. It's No Biggie! gives us the tools to meet the needs of those students and help them reach their maximum potential by providing proven intervention strategies that will reduce the social and language deficits typical of autism. I recommend this book to the seasoned, veteran teacher as well as the new teachers. Thanks to Ms. Datema and Dr. Barboa for meeting a real need by writing this book. - Sandy Nicholson, Early Childhood TeacherAlthough my professional background is in nursing and counseling, I was never educated on autism. It wasn't until one of my own children started slipping away into that unknown world that I quickly became familiar with the disorder. What I wouldn't have given to have had this book at my fingertips during those first few years! We were incredibly blessed with devoted educators and therapists who were always available to answer questions and guide me in my quest to help our child. Not every parent is so fortunate. This book will fi ll a tremendous void for those desperate to help a child. Whether you are a school teacher, a parent, a preschool teacher, or anyone who works with children...the information the authors have provided is invaluable and a must read. You owe it to the children you encounter each day to make yourself as versed in ASD as possible. - Marcia N. Ellis, RN, BSN, MS
