Back Cover
Crisp as perfect casts, these twelve tales are funny, poignant, fresh, and vibrating with life. They are peopled with a colorful panoply of characters inspired by Olsson's experiences as a Montana fishing guide. Cast Again is also the story of a woman's life built around fly fishing and the aesthetics, ethics, and rhythms that define the angling life. It will appeal immensely to all fly fishers, especially to the legions of women just discovering the sport, but also to anyone seeking a life more connected to the natural world and more dictated by the heart's desire. Review
"Human Rights, Migration, and Social Conflict makes a cogent argument for the extension of principles of nondiscrimination and equality that are part of numerous human rights conventions. This volume provides a useful focus on the links between globalization and migration, the process of criminalizing migrants, and the spectrum of resulting egregious human rights violations that have been ignored by receiving countries." Katherine Fennelly, professor, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota"Bringing human rights to the center of state immigration policy, Estévez's critical analysis shows that states' understanding of, relationship to, and systemic denial of migrants' human rights are central to the experiences of both the population of the receiving country and, importantly, of the immigrants themselves. This is an important volume." David L. Brunsma, professor, Department of Sociology, Virginia Tech
Long Description
Social conflict involving migrants, which includes terrorism, migrant trafficking and kidnappings, riots and the occupation of public places, is a direct result of the systematic refusal of receiving countries to recognize that migrants have universal human rights. Analysis of this causal relationship indicates that certain elements of migration policy in Europe and North America-such as the securitization of border controls and development cooperation policies, the widespread use of foreigners internment camps as part of a tougher asylum policy, the criminalization of irregular migration, and social exclusion resulting from widespread discrimination-lead to violent social conflict. These violent conflicts of potentially global impact could be prevented were countries that receive migrants to adopt a system of justice-a decolonized global justice-that recognizes the human rights of migrants.
