Hampshire's Lost Railways, by Marie Panter
Published by Stenlake in 2005, 48 pages. Rectangular Paperback - 17cm by 24cm (N4117)
Brand New Book
Railways were built across Britain during the 'Railway Mania' of the 1830's and 1840's and Hampshire was no different, particularly as developers were keen to create links between London and the south coast and the Isle of Wight. The railways in the county ranged from small country branch lines such as the Salisbury & Dorset Junction Railway and the Hayling Island branch line, to main lines such as the London to Southampton railway. There were also two military railways and over 25 miles of lines situated behind the walls of Portsmouth Docks!
This book covers them all and includes over fifty fascinating black and white photographs of lost stations such as Whale Island, Lee-on-the-Solent, Southampton Terminus for Docks, Southampton Royal Pier, RAF Calshot, Andover Town, Clatford, Stockbridge, Horsebridge, Cliddesden, Herriard, Bentworth & Lasham, Bordon, Bishops Waltham, Fort Brockhurst, Gosport, Highclere, Burghclere, Whitchurch, Sutton Scotney, Worthy Down, King's Worthy, Winchester Chesil, Langston, Hayling Island, Browndown, Itchen Abbas, Wickham, Droxford, Privett, Longparish, Wherwell, Breamore, Fordingbridge, Fawley, Oakley and Hurstbourne
Please note their is a small price sticker on the rear side cover
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
