Sardou, written by the playwright especially for the great French actress Sarah Bernhardt, whom Puccini happened to watch in this exact performance in 1889. The premiere took place in the Constanzi theatre (Rome) on January 14, 1900. The same year the Italian company staged the Tosca in Russia, while Petersburg witnessed the opera in the garden of the Aquarium Theatre, organized by V. Lyubimov Enterprise on March, 1902. The Moscovian premiere refers to 1912, having been realized by the Zimin Opera. Every part in the Tosca requires special vocal and acting skill, being utterly a tramp for any singer. Such singers as M. Callas, R. Tebaldi, M. Freni (Tosca), E. Caruso, B. Gigli, G. di Stefano (Cavaradossi), E. Giraldoni, T. Gobbi, M. Sammarco (Scarpia) were involved in Tosca performances. Thanks for checking out this item! We have many related items listed, so be sure to check our other listings for similar items!
