Background - Brian Jacques was born in Liverpool, England. He left school at fifteen and worked as a docker, truck driver, policeman and stand-up comic before turning his attention to writing. Jacques wrote Redwall, the first book in the series, in 1986 for the children living at Liverpool's Royal Wavertree School for the Blind. The Redwall stories have a medieval setting and the heroes are peace-loving mice, moles, shrews, squirrels, and their friends who exhibit human characteristics. They face the dark side of the animal world, represented by rats, weasels, stoats, foxes, and their villainous allies, in a day-to-day struggle of good versus evil. The stories are written for young people age nine to fifteen, but many not-so-young people also enjoy them.

Synopsis - The Legend of Luke takes place in the days before Redwall, and reveals the legend of the first of the magnificent Redwall warriors--Luke, father of Martin. It is that legend Martin hopes to discover when he embarks on a perilous journey to the northland shore, where his father abandoned him as a child. There, within the carcass of a great red ship, he uncovers what he has been searching for: the story of the evil Pirate stoat, Vilu Daskar, and the valiant mousewarrior who pursued him relentlessly over the high seas, seeking to destroy Vilu at all costs, even if it meant deserting his only son. Illustrated with two double page maps and chapter head vignettes.

Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, tears, writing or turned down page corners. The textblock edges are white and clean. The cover has sharp corners with just a hint of shelfwear at the spine only, no soil or stains. The glossy dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart), has very light rubwear and mild edgewear, no chips or tears. No unpleasant odors.
