The History of Banstead (Volume 1), by John Sweetman, subtitled 'The Olden Days, from the Romans to Queen Victoria'Published by the Banstead History Research Group in 2005, 150 pages. Paperback (N4325)The town of Banstead lies in Surrey on the border with Greater London, just east of Epsom, and although strictly a town it is often referred to by locals as 'Banstead Village'. This book provides a fascinating history of the town and its people over many centuries, and it begins with what is known about the occupation of the Romans and the Anglo Saxons in the district. The book then goes on to describe century by century, detailing the major events, people and conditions in Banstead up until 1840, and setting the history of the town against the general historical background of the timesThe book is illustrated throughout with several black and white photographs, drawings and maps, and there is a small price sticker on the rear side cover. Please note, if you are interested in this book, I also have volume 2 listed on the website - this second volume brings the history of the town up to modern times. The condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs, but the spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
