In this book a distinguished Airborne soldier looks back at some of the Airborne operations of World War II to see what sort of spirit the Airborne assault developed in its soldiers and airmen and to compare the operations of the most effective and frequent users - Germany, Britain and the U.S. The author has taken five less frequently studied operations for his study: two German, one American and one combined British and American. The capture of the Fort at Eben Emael by German parachute engineers, landing by glider on top of the fort, startled the world in May 1940 and set the pattern for many subsequent glider assaults by both sides.
The German Sturm regiment's attack on Maleme airfield at the western end of Crete a year later was the key to the whole German assault and a gamble so nearly lost. The United States recapture of Corregidor showed how the bold, unorthodox use of parachute troops solved a difficult problem and saved many lives. The use of the XVIII Airborne Corps in the crossing of the Rhine by 21 Army Group produced the largest aerial armada ever seen, as two complete airborne divisions were landed on one lift and within 2? hours. The already crumbling German resistance was shattered at a stroke.

VINTAGE PAPERBACK BOOKS
Please be aware that the binding glue in vintage paperbacks is likely to be much drier than newer books, and thus more fragile than more modern printings. Paper also can be sometimes somewhat brittle.
All vintage paperbacks require proper & careful care in handling & reading or the spine glue will crack!!.

WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST THESE NEW RATES WILL ACTUALLY BE, SO PLEASE BE PATIENT. WE ARE EXPERIENCING 2 – 6 WEEKS AS BEFORE DEPENDING ON THE CLASS OF MAIL USED.
Shipments inside the US are also experiencing massive slowdowns, please be patient. Media Sometimes is taking 1 to 4 weeks with no rhyme or reason as to why.
